![]() And it’s all set to a tonally perfect musical score that would be right at home in a Mission Impossible film.Īnother nice touch is the voice work provided by Guy Harris. Alien ray guns and plasma beams make exactly the sounds ray guns and plasma beams make in real life (presumably). Missiles launch and explode with satisfying whizzes and bangs. The sound and music in Anomaly Warzone are topnotch. Nevertheless, the unit design gets the job done and, unless you really stop to think about it to, for example, write a review of the game, the uninspired design will probably go mostly unnoticed–especially since you’ll be feasting your eyes on the spectacular environments 11 bit studios has created here. Anomaly Warzone’s unit design isn’t nearly as varied or interesting as what you’ll find in Fieldrunners, and it doesn’t come remotely close to the inspired design of the plants and zombies battling it out in Plants vs. The convoy vehicles (i.e, the characters you control), on the other hand, lean a bit toward the generic side. The environments are superb, depicting in minute detail a nearly post-apocalyptic Baghdad, with crumbling buildings and smashed and burning cars littering the streets. The artwork in Anomaly Warzone is something of a mixed bag. Anomaly Warzone Earth is very well designed. My wife is a graphic designer, so I vicariously □ know good design. Everything from the main menu system to the tactical map manipulation (more on that later) is utterly streamlined, elegant and intuitive. It’s worth noting that the user interface in Anomaly Warzone was designed by someone who should design UIs for a living. And if there’s one thing on which everyone who has played both versions seems to agree, it’s that the iPad version manages to outshine it’s older sibling thanks to the iPad’s intuitive touchscreen controls. I never played the PC/Mac version, but from what I’ve read most of the game came over to the iPad intact. And, in fact, that’s where it started its life. This is a game that would be at home on a home videogame console or the PC/Mac. The production values of Anomaly Warzone Earth are spectacular. If you’ve played Field Runners (and if you haven’t, you should), the mechanics are a lot like the exact opposite of that game. Instead of manning the towers, you control a military convoy trying to blast your way through enemy (a malevolent Alien race that has invaded Earth) controlled towers. 11 bit studios has turned the tower defense genre on its head here. ![]() ![]() Everything from the opening sequence to the ending credits has been lovingly crafted and finely tuned.Īnomaly Warzone is another iPad tower defense game, but make no mistake, this isn’t just another tower defense game. 11 bit studios has delivered one of the most impressive games on the App Store with Anomaly Warzone. On second thought, another equally appropriate description comes to mind: Fun. Will saving an extra dollar fill that gaping hole caused by the lack of an iPad in one's life? Possibly! The Retina Display update is available now.No adjective is better suited to Anomaly Warzone Earth than “polish”. ![]() Now, one may think "So, the game has twice the resolution, that means the game's going to be twice the price, right?" Wrong, rhetorical person! The game is now in fact much cheaper, as the price is now half off: $1.99 for the HD version which is universal, and $0.99 for the iPhone/iPod touch version. Well, fret no longer, earthlings! 11 bit Studios just released an update for Anomaly: Warzone Earth HD to make it compatible with the iPad Retina Display, thus correcting a situation that 11 bit Studios are quoted as saying is "not very good at all." Yes, aliens can now be conspired against, and their towers properly offensed in stunning high resolution! ![]() It had that shiny new Retina Display, but Anomaly: Warzone Earth didn't run at Retina resolution on there! Earth was ready to go to war over this cruel misdeed. There was something anomalous about the third generation iPad. ![]()
